Red Lake
Red Lake lies near the top of
Kit Carson Pass on Highway 88, about 35 minutes from Lake Tahoe.
The elevation is about 7,200 feet. It was created in 1924 for
irrigating livestock in Nevada. Today it is owned
by the California Department of Fish & Game. The cool water
supports a good population
of Brook and Lahontan Cutthroat Trout. The lake is best fished
from a float tube where you can get into some
of the more remote areas of the lake and fish the lies where the
fresh springs come into the lake.
Woolly buggers, he AP nymphs, damsel nymphs and a number of other
subsurface flies work well here.
The West end of the lake is the most productive area for fly fishermen.

The "Ladybugs"
Fly-Fishing Club"
has recently adopted
this lake and with the assistance of the DFG
it is our hope to make this an even better fishery for both the
fly fisherman and traditional fisherman.
Red Lake is a beautiful Alpine lake surrounded by snow-capped
peaks. It is one of the more picturesque lakes
in the area and it supports some wonderful wild life. The Bald
Eagle enjoys the area and can be seen ,
throughout the summer and fall. There are Deer, Bear Osprey, Duck,
Geese and many more wonderful
wild animals that inhabit the area.
If you have any suggestions on how we might make this a better
place to fish, please feel free to drop us an email.
